Cherry Valley, IL Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Electric
Although the area that would become Cherry Valley has been inhabited by Native American tribes since prehistoric times, there’s no record of Europeans settling here prior to the 1830s. During that decade, the first homesteaders arrived from the eastern United States. Since many of the new arrivals came from upstate New York, it was eventually decided that the town would take its name from Cherry Valley, New York. During the early 20th century, Cherry Valley became an important satellite for the burgeoning city of Rockford. These days, it’s a prosperous suburb with close ties to Rockford and Chicago.
Cherry Valley is located in north-central Illinois’s Winnebago County. It’s situated just to the south of the larger city of Rockford and boasts tight transportation ties to surrounding communities. Chicago proper is about 90 miles to the southeast. Although most of Cherry Valley is residential, there’s a shopping corridor with an important regional mall near Interstate 90. The undeveloped lands on the city’s eastern and southern outskirts consist of oak savanna and gently rolling farmland. Major thoroughfares in the Cherry Valley area include Interstates 90 and 39 as well as U.S. Highway 20.
Population and Demographics
According to the most recent Census figures, Cherry Valley has a year-round population of about 3,000. This figure has increased markedly since the 1990s and now sits at its highest level in living memory. Most Cherry Valley residents work in white-collar positions in nearby Rockford. However, it’s increasingly common for locals to seek higher-paying positions at major firms headquartered on the outer edge of Chicago’s suburbs. Cherry Valley is particularly popular with younger families who value its high-performing school system, safe streets and impressive network of parks.
