It was during the post-war Rockford housing boom in 1957, that Elmer Axberg started his HVAC business. He was joined in the business by his wife Juanita, who kept the books plus provided support as the only other office staff at that time. Elmer’s one-man shop began installing air conditioners and furnaces for one contractor. The business grew as his reputation for craftsmanship and commitment to excellence became known throughout the community. As their customer list grew, they hired more employees.
In 1999, Elmer’s daughter Julie took over managing their thriving heating and air conditioning business. A few years later, in 2000, Steven Wagner joined her as a joint owner. Through the years, Julie and Steve continued with Elmer’s philosophy of providing excellent service to customers throughout Rockford and the surrounding communities. Their commitment to the communities they continued to serve kept Axberg on a steady growth trajectory.
Most recently, in April 2014, after months of searching for the perfect fit, Julie and Steve sold the business to Black Diamond Plumbing & Mechanical of Crystal Lake, IL. Black Diamond is also a family-owned business and shares the same philosophy and determination to deliver world-class service to the Rockford area. In addition to providing service excellence to customers’ heating and cooling needs, they would be able to expand their services to include plumbing, sewer, electric, and duct cleaning. It was a great fit on all fronts.
The Axberg name remains the company name, and although the ownership has changed, the commitment to quality, and customer service remain the guiding principle of the company.
